TRAI has introduced a new facility for all the Mobile subscribers,Using this users can easily deactivate Mobile data services on their number by just calling a toll free number or sending a free sms,This service will begin from next month(1st September 2015) onwards,This was in response to a large number of complaints from users,due to the problems the customers were facing in deactivation of the data services,the number will be completely toll free, customers can dial this and activate or deactivate the data services on their number by following the IVR Instructions or sending an sms.
Valid sms commands for this number are ‘START‘ or ‘STOP‘ post sending this message to 1925 customers will get the response regarding the activation or deactivation status,Though there were already provisions for deactivation of these services on some networks but the customers were un-aware and couldn’t deactivate them.
TRAI said:-
“No service provider shall activate or deactivate the data service on the Cellular Mobile Telephone connection of a consumer without his explicit consent,”
“Authority decided that those consumers taking data packs such as STV (special tariff voucher) or Combo Voucher or add-on pack will be deemed to have given their consent for data services. Such consent will be deemed to be only for the duration of validity of data pack or on exhausting the data limit, whichever is earlier,”
Telecom operators have also been asked to send alerts to customers for every 10 MB Consumed if they haven’t subscribed to data packs,which can also be opted out by the customers on request.
